Kohl's surges after an earnings beat

By Paul Price Virtual Value Portfolio holding Kohl's (KSS) reported better than expected earnings this morning sending the shares soaring.

Buying out-of-favor value shares has proven to be a winning strategy over the long term. It's been working since our portfolio inception date October 26, 2012.

Potash Corp Grows Dividend 25% By Paul Price Canadian-based Potash Corp (POT) announced it will distribute $0.35 per share on its common stock next quarter up 25% from the old 28-cent rate. Record date is July 12, Payment date is August 2. Management noted this marks the fifth time it has raised its payout since 2011. The new payout annualizes at $1.40 per share putting the current yield at 3.2% based on POT's closing stock price of $43.38. POT is an approximately 5% holding in our Virtual Value Portfolio. When investors could get as high as 15% - 18% on insured bank CDs, they had little appetite for stock market risk. Today, with near-zero interest (ZIRP) available on CDs, bonds and money markets, P/E multiples should be greater than average. Instead the forward multiple is barely above the long-term average. Relative to fixed income, stocks are still cheap.
